PRIMA, PERI Offer Virtual Seminar

NU Online News Service, Aug. 28, 2:21 p.m. EST?Two risk management groups said they will give a virtual seminar on systems for assessing and accrediting local fire and emergency services.

The Public Risk Management Association and Public Entity Risk Institute said the telephone conference seminar will be held Sept. 26, at 3:00-4:30 p.m. EST, according to PRIMA and PERI.

Featured Speakers are Chief Ronny J. Coleman, chairman of the Commission on Fire Accreditation International board of directors; Alan Brunacini, Chief of the Phoenix, Ariz. Fire Department; and James Paulson, vice president of Insurance Services Office, Jersey City, N.J.

The program will discuss how three national systems for assessing and benchmarking a community's emergency services can serve as a yardstick for meeting a community's risk.

The systems are: ISO's Public Protection Classification system; the Commission on Fire Accreditation International's fire and emergency services accreditation process; and the National Fire Protection Association's 1710, which is standard for the organization and deployment of fire suppression operations, emergency medical operations, and special operations to the public by career fire departments.

These systems are all aimed at the same end result–minimizing the overall risks to a community.

The panel will discuss how these different systems can serve a community; which system may best fit a community; whether the systems can be employed jointly without conflicting; and how these systems affect a community's resources.

The seminar will be held during the institute's symposium, which runs from Sept. 23-27 and has as its capstone a leadership forum.

PERI said the Leadership Forum is designed to increase understanding of the topics presented in the free Issues and Ideas Papers provided during the symposium.

The groups said the seminar will be available in a cassette tape that will be mailed approximately two weeks after the session.

Registration and fee information can be obtained by calling 800-775-7654, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. central time. Please mention program code RMA 7181-0.
