Mr. Lewis will succeed Stephen W. Lilienthal, who last week was promoted to chief executive officer of CNA Financial Corp., and chairman and chief executive officer of CNA insurance companies, according to CNA.

Before joining Chicago-based CNA, Mr. Lewis was senior vice president, U.S. field operations, at the St. Paul Companies. During his nine years at St. Paul/USF&G, he held the positions of regional president, Northeast Region; senior vice president, Personal Lines; and president, Small Commercial, the company said.
