Jenkins Wins Service Rep. Award

NU Online News Service, July 24, 10:54 a.m. EST? A 16-year veteran of the insurance industry is this year's winner of the 2001 National Accredited Customer Service Representative of the Year award, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America announced.

Customer service representative Barbara S. Jenkins of the insurance agency, DeJarnette & Beale Inc., of Bowling Green, Va., was picked for the honor for her "contributions to her agency, her community, the insurance industry and the strength of her essay on customer service," the Alexandria, Va.-based agent association said.

Ms. Jenkins received a cash prize of $1,500, registration for one CPCU or IIA course administered by The American Institute for Chartered Property-Casualty Underwriters, and Insurance Institute of America, both based in Malvern, Pa., and a plaque commemorating her achievement.

Diane Mattis, education director for the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia said Ms. Jenkins is the first customer service representative in the state to earn all three ACSR designations, personal, commercial, and life and health. She was also among the first to obtain the ACSR designation in the state, Ms. Mattis said.

Candidates for the award must hold the ACSR designation from IIABA and uphold the professional standards for which ACSR designees are recognized, the association said.

The ACSR accreditation is an international designation program developed by IIABA and administered in conjunction with The American Institute for CPCU, for the promotion and recognition of customer service expertise throughout the independent agency system.
