New Communications Director At Lloyd's

NU Online News Service, May 22, 3:07 p.m. EST?Lloyd's of London announced today that David Peel has been named the market's new director of marketing and communications.

Mr. Peel is currently a director at international public relations consultancy, Weber Shandwick, where he has specialized in strategic media relations. He is scheduled to take office June 10.

Prior to his role with Weber Shandwick, he spent nine years as a press officer in the British Civil Service, including more than two-and-a-half years in the prime minister's press office.

"Lloyd's has begun a reform program that will ensure it remains a world leader in the insurance industry," said Mr. Peel. "Marketing and communications will be one of the keys to the successful modernization of Lloyd's, and I look forward to leading that effort."

Lloyd's Chief Executive Officer Nick Prettejohn said Mr. Peel is "a highly experienced media and communications professional who has operated in a range of sectors. He joins us at a time when the market has made a strong recovery from the impact of the Sept. 11 attacks and is driving forward with its program of modernization."

He added that "as a major international insurer and employer, Lloyd's communicates with audiences within the London insurance market, throughout the U.K., and across the globe. The U.S. is our largest single market, thus much of our effort has to be focussed there. David will play a vital role in ensuring all our key audiences are aware of developments here at Lloyd's and understand their implications."

Mr. Peel's predecessor, Caroline Wagstaff, is stepping down after four years in the position to pursue other interests.
