By JimConnolly, NU Life-Health Senior Editor
NU Online News Service, May 13, 2:58 p.m. EST?The California insurance department said a new draft of privacy regulations should be announced by May 24. The latest draft would receive a 15-day public comment period and then be forwarded to the California office of administrative services. Usually, according to the department, a regulation becomes effective 30 days after it is received by the Office.
State insurance departments have been establishing privacy standards to conform with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. California held a hearing in February following exposure of an initial guideline. A new draft is being developed responding to comments received during that hearing.
