IIAA Becomes IIABA
NU Online News Service, April 15, 12:53 p.m. EST?The Independent Insurance Association of America added "Brokers" to its title today, becoming the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America.
The Alexandria, Va. ? based agents association announcement of the official name change follows approval by the association's National Board of State Directors on Friday.
The change, IIABA said in a statement, was made to reflect the fact that many of the largest agencies and brokerage firms are members of the association; many state affiliates include "broker" in their name; and the term accurately reflects to legislators, consumers, the media, and insurance companies the membership IIABA represents.
"The change was driven by our members," said Robert A. Rusbuldt, IIABA's chief executive officer. "The new name now matches the mission of the association, which is to advocate on behalf of all independent agents and brokers."
"Through this change," said Thomas B. Ahart, IIABA president, "we highlight the important role of large agents and brokers in our association and place a spotlight on the advocacy work we do on behalf of the largest agents and brokers."
