N.Y. Puts Insurance Survey About 9/11 Online

NU Online News Service, Feb. 28, 4:28 p.m. EST?The New York State Insurance Department has begun an online survey of consumers to find out if they have any special claims issues stemming from the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attack.

Insurance Superintendent Gregory V. Serio said consumers can access the survey at www.ins.state.ny.us.

The survey asks about consumer satisfaction with insurance claims for auto, health, life, workers' compensation, homeowners/tenants and commercial property, including business interruption.

In an announcement today, Mr. Serio noted that his department had recently given out survey forms to 400 businesses in the World Trade Center area to help assess the status of their insurance claims.

The department has also begun hearings on how the insurance marketplace has been impacted since Sept. 11. The hearings deal with such issues as availability and adequacy of coverage to homeowners, small businesses and large commercial risks.

In other Sept.11-related activity, the department said it is working with the Downtown Alliance and the Manhattan Borough President's Office on insurance outreach seminars.
