Confab To Examine Insurance Market Impacts

NU Online News Service, Feb.18, 3:20 p.m. EST?An integrated financial services organization and an insurance communications group are staging a Thursday forum in Washington to examine the forces impacting on the current insurance marketplace.

Sponsored jointly by the Insurance Information Institute based in New York and The Financial Services Roundtable, Washington, the meeting will explore developments in the insurance, banking and securities marketplace since passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the organizations announced.

I.I.I. said a panel of experts will discuss future opportunities and challenges in the financial services industry, including the implications of the convergence of these sectors; prospects for terrorism insurance coverage and a Federal backstop; pension reform; and the long-term impact of Enron.

The 2002 Financial Services Fact Book, with facts and figures on trends involving within the insurance, banking and securities areas, will also be introduced at the noon to 2 p.m. luncheon session titled, "The Future of the Financial Services Industry: The Road Ahead."

The session will be held in the John Peter Zenger Room of the National Press Club. Session participants will include: Gordon Stewart, president of the Insurance Information Institute; Steve Bartlett, president of The Financial Services Roundtable; H. Rodgin Cohen, partner at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP; Cantwell F. Muckenfuss, partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP; Charles W. Calomiris, visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
