NAIC Pulls Jewish Holiday Meeting Date
NU Online News Service, Jan. 28, 12:30 p.m.EST? The National Association of Insurance Commissioners, after calls from Jewish members, has reversed a decision to hold its fall meeting on a major Jewish holiday.
The new national meeting dates are Sept. 9 to 12. The location will remain at the New Orleans Hilton.
"Many of our regular meeting attendees expressed concern that they would be unable to attend the fall meeting with the dates as originally scheduled," said North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long, chair of the NAIC's Meetings Coordination Task Force.
The original meeting dates of Sept. 7 through 10 conflicted with the Jewish Rosh Hashanah holiday, which begins at sundown on Friday, Sept. 6 and ends at sundown on Sunday, Sept. 8.
"We are pleased to offer a schedule change that is inclusive of all regulators and interested parties, who are both necessary and valuable to the NAIC process," Mr. Long declared.
