PRIMA Reorganizes Staff, Targets Education
A rededication to its mission statement has prompted the Public Risk Management Association to reorganize its staff, focusing more on education for members, said Jim Hirt, PRIMA's interim executive director.
The Arlington, Va.-based organization outsourced its media department as of July 1, replacing three PRIMA employees with "five dedicated employees" of Banatt Communications in Glendale, Ariz.
The communications firm will handle PRIMAs magazine, Public Risk; its annual conference programs; seminar programs; and other print media. Future plans include a "members only" section on the PRIMA Web site and other features yet to be announced, he said.
"In the best interest of PRIMA, we decided to dedicate more funding and staff time to education and training seminars," Mr. Hirt said. "We have outsourced our media function to an organization that we believe will improve our products. So we really havent cut back or eliminated, weve actually added to the association."
Mr. Hirt said PRIMA "will be spending less, so those funds will allow me to hire some additional people." New staff members will be dedicated to education and "partnering with organizations to improve and increase our educational opportunities."
PRIMAs staff of 14 wont change in size, he said, because three new staff members will be added.
The restructuring will result in "significant" savings to PRIMA, he said. The action goes "back to PRIMAs mission and our strategic planning of dedicating more resources to education, which is our function–providing education to our members," Mr. Hirt said.
