Pencel (www.pencel.com) recently launched its Kinectivity system to enable corporations to provide mobile workers with access to corporate data resources via Palm handhelds.
A mobile extended database and application tool, the Pencel-described 'define-and-deploy' system offers custom mobile solutions for anytime/anywhere access. Applications created with Kinectivity Studio-a software development environment used to prototype, develop, and deliver custom mobile solutions-are deployed on Kinectivity to integrate with back-end databases and other software products.
“To be successfully deployed in mission-critical business applications, mobile solutions must take full advantage of the resources available to handheld devices while serving as an extension of existing data systems,” said Chris Maloney, Pencel president and CEO. “The Kinectivity system creates a user interface and application logic specific to the needs of individual enterprises, as well as the capability to integrate with a variety of data sources.”
The Kinectivity system provides configurable components most often needed for mobile DB applications, including user interface, data validation, and data exchange connections.
Kinectivity's database platform consists of software on the corporate side and on the mobile device. The server component promotes connectivity between enterprise systems and manages data flow to and from the wireless devices. While Palm is the only device currently supported, Pencel plans to include Microsoft's Pocket PC and RIM Blackberry devices.
