You may have waited all year for turkey (or Tofurkey) and fixings but even the most delectable Thanksgiving bites can’t sooth awkward moments caused by dicey conversation topics.

Experts advise keeping the remarks light at holiday gatherings and sticking to such low-drama topics as recent trips, new hobbies, fun projects or what you’re currently reading or screening.

Topics that are off the table for convivial festivities — those proverbial “table grenades,” according to Forbes — include politics, personal finance, culture wars, controversial headlines, relationship inquiries and personal-appearance critiques.

“People have differing opinions about divisive topics such as politics, current events and religion,” Lauren David wrote in a recent EatingWell article about Turkey Day etiquette. “Thanksgiving is about being together and enjoying each other’s company, so steering clear of challenging topics is best.”

Insurance is one of those topics that has the potential to sour the vibe, particularly when someone in the room has experienced a less-than-satisfying claim experience. As ambassadors of the business, insurance professionals have an opportunity to shine a humorous light on insurance, a subject that many laypeople find confusing.

The scrollable slideshow above offers up 15 good-spirited jokes about insurance to help keep holiday revelers smiling from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day.
