The University of Georgia's star running back Todd Gurley tore his ACL this weekend, most likely ending his college career. The injury comes just weeks after the school upped Gurley's insurance policy to $10 million, says ESPN.
The policy includes $5 million in total disability if Gurley were to be injured and never play again, and $5 million in loss of value insurance if he injured himself and slipped in the draft. Sources tell ESPN Georgia paid between $50,000 and $60,000 for the policy, which was written by International Specialty Insurance.
Previously, Gurley had $5 million in total disability and $2.5 million in loss of value.
Before being injured, sports analysts predicted Gurley would be picked in the first round of the NFL draft. According to ESPN, Gurley would start to collect on his loss of value policy if he slipped out of the first round, and would collect the full $5 million if he went undrafted. He can also collect $5 million if the injury is career-ending.
Gurley tore his ACL in his first game back against Auburn after serving a four-game suspension for accepting money for autographs.
