The International Insurance Society named A. Greig Woodring as its new chairman.
Woodring is President and CEO of Reinsurance Group of America Inc., a global life and health reinsurer with assets of more than $40 billion.
He succeeds Norman R. Sorensen, former chairman and CEO of Principal International, who has served as chairman of the IIS Board of Directors since 2010.
Sorensen says Woodring's “His guidance and leadership will continue to enhance the IIS's role as the premier global organization for the free exchange of values and ideas in the insurance industry.”
The International Insurance Society, founded in 1965, represents global insurance leaders, international regulatory authorities and worldwide insurance scholars from over 90 countries.
Prior to his current role at Reinsurance Group of America, Woodring was executive vice president of General American Life Insurance Co. (now GenAmerica Financial), and was in charge of all reinsurance business. His insurance career began as a actuary for Genrral American in 1979.
Woodring is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis.
