Marita Zuraitis, president of the P&C companies of The Hanover Insurance Group, is resigning.
According to Hanover, Zuraitis will leave the Worcester, Mass.-based insurer on May 10 to become CEO of Horace Mann Educators Corp.
Hanover says there are no plans to fill the position.
The companies of Springfield, Ill.-based Horace Mann offer retirement products and auto, homeowners and life insurance to the education community.
Hanover CEO Frederick H. Eppinger says Zuraitis “played a key leadership role as we [Hanover] has transformed our company, helping us build a world-class team, a distinctive value proposition, and strong mutually-beneficial partnerships with the best agents and brokers in the world.”
Zuraitis was named president of Allmerica Financial Corp.'s P&C companies at the start of 2004. She came from The St. Paul Cos., where she played a key role in the merger with Travelers.
Allmerica became The Hanover Insurance Group in late 2005.
Horace Mann says Zuraitis will start May 13 and work with current President and CEO Peter H. Heckman over the next several months for an orderly transition.
Heckman is retiring at the end of the year. He succeeded Louis Lower, who resigned late in 2010—one month into a 60-day sentence he was serving for a drunken driving charge.
