The Hartford is looking to be the “go-to carrier” for midsize and large commercial contractors with a new hire and by enhancing its construction group capabilities.

Thomas M. Boudreau joins Hartford from American International Group (AIG) to lead Hartford's insurance underwriting and sales in the construction sector. Boudreau has been named vice president of construction insurance and will report to Ross Fisher, vice president of Hartford's construction group and bond.

“As the outlook for commercial construction continues to improve, The Hartford is well-positioned to be a go-to carrier for midsize and large commercial contractors,” says Fisher, in a statement. ”Tom brings deep knowledge of the construction industry, a strong risk management focus, and outstanding relationships with the agents and brokers who specialize in this sector, which will be invaluable in growing our construction business.”

Boudreau held roles of increasing responsibility at AIG in both underwriting and field sales during the last 10 years, including vice president of the company's largest U.S. region, says Hartford. Most recently, Boudreau served as AIG's construction-industry practice leader and primary construction profit center manager for the U.S. and Canada. He began his insurance career as a commercial field underwriter with Allstate.

The Hartford Construction Group focuses on heavy trade contractors, commercial builders and sub-contractors. The Hartford offers guaranteed cost, loss sensitive and wrap-up insurance programs and comprehensive claims and loss control services.
