Allianz Speciality Leader Elected AIMU Chairman

Roger Ablett, practice leader at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, has been elected the 51st chairman of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU) since it was established in 1898.

Ablett succeeds Robert Gallagher, president of International Marine Underwriters, a member of the OneBeacon Insurance Group, who completed his two-year term as chairman. 

Ablett has been in the insurance industry since 1974. He has served in executive positions at Munich American Reinsurance Company, The Home Insurance Company, Transatlantic Marine Claims Agency, Great American Insurance Company and CNA, before joining Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) as practice leader in 2008. 

AGCS is one of the world's leading marine insurers, offering insurance cover for all types of modern shipping including tanker, bulker or container ships and passenger vessels, as well as yachts and pleasure craft. AGCS also offers cargo insurance, covering physical loss or damage to international and domestic goods in transit. In 2011, AGCS's marine business generated over US$ 1.2 billion in insurance premiums (on a gross written premium basis) worldwide.

Ablett he is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping, National Cargo Bureau, Maritime Law Association, Association of Average Adjusters of the United States and Canada and The Society of CPCU. 

Ablett received a B.S. from Wagner College and an MBA from Rider University. He participated in the Darden Executive Program at the University of Virginia and the Principle Centered Leadership program at the Covey Leadership Center. He holds the CPCU designation from the American AIMU provides educational programs to its members, serves as an advocate before international, federal and state governments and acts as an information center for the U.S. ocean marine insurance industry. Institute For Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
