Dan Riordan, an employee of Zurich since 1997, has been promoted to chief executive officer of the company's Global Corporate in North America business.

Riordan first joined Zurich to lead the policical risk and trade credit business in Washington D.C. The Switzerland-based insurance group says it is now the leading provider of political risk and medium-term credit insurance in the global marketplace.

In 2008, the surety unit was added to the Political Risk and Trade Credit business and Riordan was named head of that unit. Most recently he was president of North America Commercial's specialty products business unit.

Bryan Salvatore replaces Riordan as president of the specialty products business unit. He has served the last four years as  head of the specialty products' accident & health (A&H) business.

In his new role to begin on Oct. 1, Riordan will be accountable for the direction, management and performance of Global Corporate in North America, which is one of Zurich's major business areas within North America and he will play a significant role in the success of both Global Corporate and the wider General Insurance business goals.

Riordan succeeds Mike Kerner who was recently appointed CEO of General Insurance.

"Dan brings a great depth of experience to his new role," said Mike Foley, Zurich's Regional Chairman, North America and CEO, North America Commercial. "Global Corporate is a very important component of Zurich's business in North America and we know that he will successfully lead its continued growth in the marketplace."

Riordan is a member of the Management Committee of the Berne Union and a board member of the US-Russia Business Council.
