Although the direct sale of commercial-line insurance remains the extremely limited exception rather than the rule, many carriers offer online quoting and application capabilities for their agents and brokers. Some examples include:

  • Ace Commercial Risk Services provides online application for several lines of Professional Liability and Motor Truck Cargo coverage.
  • Chubb offers agents and brokers the ability to quote, bind and issue Motor Truck Cargo, Contractors' Equipment and Builders' Risk policies via its “u.writer” platform. The company also provides eApplications, including eSignature functionality, for 10 lines of commercial insurance.
  • Chartis provides brokers a single point of access to quote and bind policies for small and midsize businesses through its MyChartis portal, which currently has more than 45,000 users.
  • CNA offers online quoting tools via CNACentral, primarily geared toward writing Business Owner Policy (BOP), Workers' Comp, Auto, Umbrella and Cyber Liability for small businesses; Ocean Cargo for all business sizes; and Professional Liability for some health-care classes.
