Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. says it redefined the co-CEO roles of Aspen Insurance.
Mario Vitale will become the sole chief executive officer of Aspen Insurance globally.
Rupert Villers, who shared the CEO slot at Aspen Insurance with Vitale, will extend his service with Aspen and take a new position as chairman of Aspen Insurance and President of Aspen International Insurance.
Vital remains president of E&S/specialty insurer Aspen U.S. Insurance, the holding company says in a statement.
Vitale joined Aspen Insurance in March 2011 from Zurich Financial Services, where he was CEO, global corporate. He was promoted to co-CEO of Aspen Insurance in October 2011 and assumed the role when then co-CEO John Cavoores stepped down at the start of this year.
Cavoores remains a director—a position he has held since 2006.
Vitale's new role will have him managing the day-to-day business of Aspen Insurance globally and managing the underwriting teams at Aspen Insurance in the U.S.
Villers will support strategic development at Aspen International and be responsible for managing the segments underwriters.
Chris O'Kane, CEO of Aspen Insurance Holdings, says Aspen “will continue to benefit from Rupert Viller's expertise and [the company] has put in place a firm foundation for the future strategic leadership and direction of our insurance business under Mario Vitale.”
