In its latest Hot Spots report, The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) outlines the continuing downward spike in national auto thefts, as well as the ten areas with the most vehicle thefts per capita.

Contributing to the overall decline was a significant drop in the rankings of the Laredo, Texas area. Ranked as the top hotbed for auto theft in 2009, this MSA dropped to the 53rd spot in just two years, from 1,792 in 2009 to 849 total thefts in 2011.
