Tropical Storm Emily Wind SpeedsA tropical-storm warning is in effect for Puerto Rico and other locations in the vicinity as Tropical Storm Emily moves slowly into the area.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says Emily is a poorly organized storm and conditions in the area are not conducive to strengthening. Emily has been stationary, but is expected to resume a west-northwest motion at around 12 miles per hour later today. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 miles per hour.

The NHC's most likely projected path has Emily continuing its west-northwest movement over the next three or four days before making a turn toward the north. That turn would bring the storm toward the Florida coast, but the NHC notes that models "basically dissipate the cyclone near Hispaniola."

As of 11:00 a.m. EDT, the NHC has issued a tropical storm warning for Vieques and Culebra, Puerto Rico; Haiti; and the Dominican Republic. A tropical storm watch is in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
