This is your final edition of Claims CE for the year — and forever. Beginning in January, we will be merging this publication into Claims Connection, the weekly eNews brought to you by the editors of Claims Magazine and our soon-to-launch site, PropertyCasualty360.com. Rest assured, however, that the content you have come to know and love will also make the transition. We promise to keep delivering to you the insights you need to remain informed and ahead of the curve when it comes to your continuing education.

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, however, I'd like to note that this is yet another stellar issue full of CE-related content. This month's top feature comes courtesy of Donna Popow, who is senior director of knowledge resources and ethics counsel for The Institutes. In her piece, she outlines the expectations for a catastrophe adjuster, which at times can border on the absurd and outrageous. To help catastrophe adjusters manage such high job expectations, Popow highlights several training programs that are available, including The Institutes' newest designation program, the Associate in National Flood Insurance. If you are looking to stand out as a catastrophe adjuster during these lean times, be sure to click on this feature.

This month's second feature is, of course, our very popular "Know Your CE" quiz, written this month by Barrett Evans. Evans pioneered this unique concept, and so it's fitting that he contributes this final edition, which looks at the Automobile Policy: Part D–Coverage for Damage to Your Auto (ISO Form PP 00 01 01 05). Extremely entertaining while at the same time educational, "Know Your CE" is quite simply a must-read for claim professionals. Besides, how many other articles will you read that have a sentence like this in it? "Bert, the local town drunk, left his favorite bar at 2:00 a.m. Saturday and started making his way home…."

Our monthly conference preview takes a look at the Loss Executives Association annual conference, which enters its 80th year in Tampa in early February. The industry's chief proponent, I.I.I. President Dr. Robert Hartwig, will be a keynote speaker, and hot topics such as case law updates, effectively handling claims and policyholder expectations, and managing staffing counts during slow times are some of the issues that will be discussed.

It's been a fun ride. Hope you enjoyed it, and we'll see you all in Claims Connection in 2011, along with many other surprises.

Sincerely,

Eric Gilkey
