A Seattle, Wash. woman has pled guilty to filing a false claim in an insurance case after allegedly smashing her van into two parked cars.
According to investigators, Luom Vo, 38, was driving on Beacon Ave. just before 2 a.m. on Nov. 27, 2009, when she ran her van into two parked vehicles. Her van caused some serious damage to the unfortunate vehicles in its wake before she made a break for it.
Seeing as her van was disabled due to the crash, Vo hitched a ride away from the scene with a friend. Later that same day, she called her insurer, PEMCO, to report her ride stolen and file a claim. When asked by PEMCO investigators about the crash, she insisted that she was not driving the van when it happened.
Special investigators found evidence to the contrary, though. Apparently, the crash caused enough of a disturbance to wake a few surrounding households, so there were plenty of witnesses to see Vo climb out of the wrecked van, and into her friend's car.
Vo pled guilty to filing a false claim, and has been sentenced in King County Superior Court to 30 days of community service as well as $4,000 in restitution and other costs.
