WASHINGTON–Missouri Insurance Director John Huff has been selected as the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) representative on the federal agency that will monitor financial institutions that may pose a systemic risk to the financial system.
The NAIC appointed Director Huff after an open selection process that began at the NAIC's summer meeting in Seattle in late August.
The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, enacted in August, gave the NAIC authority to name a non-voting member to the so-called Financial Stability Oversight Council.
Director Huff will serve a two-year term.
Travis Ford, a spokesman for the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration, confirmed Commissioner Huff's appointment and said more information will be released next week by the NAIC.
An NAIC spokesman in Washington, D.C. was unavailable for further comment.
Director Huff is a lawyer who worked for three years as an executive with Swiss Re. His last post was at the company's global headquarters in Zurich. Prior to that, he spent eight years with GE Insurance Solutions.
He has been insurance director since February 2009.
Corrected to show John Huff as director, not commissioner.
