The Florida Municipal Insurance Trust (FMIT), a non-profit insurance provider for government entities, increased written premiums by 35 percent in the 2009-2010 business cycle. FMIT also achieved a 92 percent renewal rate (based on premium) among existing customers, and cut premiums by an average of 12 percent.

FMIT, the largest insurer of municipalities in the state, grew its member base to 607, an increase of two percent from last year, and added the cities of Delray and Pensacola, Lake County Schools, Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and six new counties to its client roster.

FMIT is sponsored and administered by the Florida League of Cities. It provides workers' compensation, liability, auto, property and health insurance to governmental entities in Florida.
