West Virginia Insurance Commissioner Jane Cline, who has a background as a state government official and consultant, has been elected the National Association of Insurance Commissioners president for 2010.
Ms. Cline was appointed insurance commissioner by West Virginia Democratic Gov. Bob Wise in 2001. Prior to her appointment as commissioner, Ms. Cline operated a government consulting firm, Jane L. Cline & Associates.
Before that, Ms. Cline served as commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and as deputy commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Highways. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from West Virginia University and an MBA from the University of West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
Other NAIC officers elected were:
o President-Elect: Iowa Insurance Commissioner Susan Voss
o Vice President: Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty
o Secretary-Treasurer: Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland
The newly elected officers will assume their duties following the completion of the Winter National Meeting tomorrow.
Ms. Voss, an attorney, has been Iowa Insurance Commissioner since 2005. Prior to her appointment as commissioner, she served as Iowa's first deputy commissioner.
Mr. McCarty, who heads the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, became Florida's first appointed insurance commissioner in January 2003.
Ms. Holland, a Democrat, was elected Oklahoma insurance commissioner in 2006 and is the first woman to hold the position in her state. She was a business woman and active civic volunteer before becoming insurance commissioner, 2010.
NAIC also elected the following zone officers:

o Southeastern Zone
Scott Richardson–chair, South Carolina insurance director; Leslie Newman–vice chair, Tennessee insurance commissioner; Jim Donelon–secretary, Louisiana insurance commissioner
o Western Zone
Linda Hall–chair, Alaska insurance director; Mo Chavez–vice chair, New Mexico insurance commissioner; Christina Urias–secretary, Arizona insurance director
