The Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West said it has taken over administration of the California Insurance Careers Program (CA-ICP) that unites community colleges, workforce investment boards, businesses and high school level education in California.
The association said it has taken over management of the statewide program from Rockridge Partners, an Oakland, Calif.-based professional program management firm that developed that program in partnership with Solano Community College.
A spokeswoman for IBA West said the association took over management of the 20 year-old program after Rockridge Partners gave-up management.
Currently the program involves partners that include 17 community colleges, nine Workforce Investment Boards, 30 businesses (including several of California's largest insurance companies) and employer associations.
"A key goal of the IBA West Strategic Plan is to assist member brokers and agents to find, recruit and train new insurance producers and client service personnel," said Clark Plan, IBA West chief executive officer. "IBA West for several years now has assisted in the development and promotion of CA-ICP and has a stake in its long-term success.
Taking over the management of CA-ICP, he said, "will allow IBA West to continue its efforts to educate students interested in the insurance profession and provide active lists of candidates that will help independent insurance brokers and agents recruit highly-trained agency personnel."
IBA West said it would continue efforts to work the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America InVEST program (which educates high school students on careers in insurance) to identify high schools interested in InVEST, as well as to locate other community colleges interested in joining the CA-ICP program.
IBA West said it will utilize the experience of its Insurance Skills Center to develop traditional and online insurance professional training programs. Plans also call for the consolidation of its current job posting service within the CA-ICP website.
