Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., is scheduled to address the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents next month on the downside of federal regulation, the organization said.
Ms. Speier, a member of the House Financial Services Committee and House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is due to speak April 1, during the association's annual Federal Legislative Summit.
Her talk will be given prior to PIA member visits to members of Congress on Capital Hill, PIA said.
"We are pleased to welcome Rep. Speier and appreciate her desire to meet with the members of PIA who will be participating in the Federal Legislative Summit," said PIA National Executive Vice President and chief executive officer Leonard C. Brevik.
Mr. Brevik said Ms. Speier's experience "with our issues in Congress and in her previous long tenure as chairwoman of the California Senate Banking, Finance & Insurance Committee will benefit all PIA members."
The association also announced that Chara R. Bray, formerly director of legislative correspondence in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, has joined the association as legislative assistant.
In her previous position, Ms. Bray managed all written correspondence between members of Congress and President George W. Bush. Additionally, she edited the official and personal correspondence of President Bush and conducted policy research for First Lady Laura Bush's special projects and events.
