House Republican Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia will address the members of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America during the association's legislative conference and convention in Washington, D.C.

Rep. Cantor will be the featured speaker at the legislative conference breakfast on April 30. He will speak just prior to the association's annual IIABA Day on Capitol Hill. More than 1,000 agents are expected to visit Capitol Hill offices to lobby Congressional members and staff on issues that directly impact independent agents and consumers, the association said.

"The Big 'I' is pleased that House Republican Whip Eric Cantor will be kicking off our annual agent pilgrimage to Capitol Hill," Robert A. Rusbuldt, IIABA president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "We're looking forward to hearing Rep. Cantor's perspectives on financial services regulation and other important topics facing our members, their businesses and our nation."

In addition to his position as the House Republican Whip, he serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, which has direct jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Social Security, Medicare, health care and welfare reform. Rep. Cantor, in his fifth term, is expected to be a key player as the Obama administration attempts major health care reform in the 111th Congress, IIABA said.

The IIABA's National Legislative Conference and Convention will take place April 29 through May 1 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Additional highlights of the meeting include in-depth issues briefing sessions, a panel discussion with top insurance carrier CEOs, a state of the association address by IIABA Chairman Brett Nilsson, an address by "Freakonomics" author Stephen Dubner, and appearances by numerous other high-profile industry speakers.
