Long the realm of socially hyperactive college students and internet-addicted high schoolers, Facebook is now home to the Virginia State Police's new insurance fraud initiative.
The Virginia State Police's Insurance Fraud Program (IFP) is utilizing the social-networking titan to further their fight against insurance fraud, part of a new cyber campaign to educate citizens about the ramifications of insurance fraud and how to combat it.
StampOutFraud.com, the IFP's web site, has been revamped to make it more interactive and user-friendly. Visitors to StampOutFraud.com can click on the Facebook link on the home page, which will take them to the IFP's fan page on Facebook. While there, they can view videos, read the latest news, and become part of the anti-fraud community. The Facebook fan page can also be found by searching Stamp Out Fraud on Facebook.com.
Two videos are currently posted on the department's page. The first one provides information to citizens about protecting themselves against insurance fraud. The second video, shot at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in Ruckersville, Va., emphasizes the networking opportunities that exist between law enforcement and insurance investigators, as provided by the International Association of Special Investigation Units.
