The U.S. Conference of Mayors recently voted in unanimous support of a resolution that urges Congress to draft a comprehensive catastrophe preparedness plan that includes a national catastrophe fund.
The organization of more than 1,000 mayors from across the country, want the plan to include a national catastrophe fund that will make homeowners insurance more available in states that are prone to natural disasters.
In the resolution, America 's mayors stated in a release by ProtectingAmerica.org, that the catastrophe fund is essential to reducing the amount of after-the-fact expenditures of taxpayers' money that Congress appropriates for damages that could be reduced by a national catastrophe fund.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist and members of the Florida congressional delegation believe that establishing a national catastrophe fund will provide aid in states that are especially vulnerable to disasters.
