The National Young Agents Committee (YAC) of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America will host its two meetings this year in Washington, D.C., and San Diego.
The first meeting will take place during the IIABA's Legislative Conference and Convention scheduled for April 25-27 in Washington, D.C.
The YAC will host a number of events geared specifically to young agents, including a first-timers reception, the Young Agent Attendee and InsurPac Chairs luncheon, a hospitality event, and the President's Panel Breakfast with IIABA leadership.
The IIABA said it is once again holding a competition for the $1,000 Maurice Herndon Scholarship. It will be awarded to the first-time attendee writing the best essay.
To be eligible, an applicant must be a young agent or broker member (age 40 or younger); be attending the Legislative Conference and Convention for the first time; and submit a maximum 500-word essay describing why he or she should receive the scholarship.
Application forms should be submitted to Katie Cosgrove, IIABA Young Agents program manager, by fax at 703-683-7556 or by e-mail at katie.cosgrove@iiaba.net.
The association is also offering two $300 scholarships to each state association, to be used by young agents on their first visit to the conference. Applications should be faxed to IIABA state associations.
Applications for all scholarships can be found on the IIABA's Web site at www.iiaba.net, under the "Young Agents" tab and "Tools." Application deadline for all scholarships is March 1, the IIABA said.
The YAC will host The Young Agent Leadership Institute Sept. 28-30 in conjunction with the IIABA's National Board of State Directors meeting in San Diego at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
Attendees will participate in training sessions including membership development, communications, committee projects and events, and political involvement. Also planned is a technology panel breakfast as well as networking opportunities with peers and IIABA leaders.
