DirecTV, a satellite television service, has launched a 24-hour channel dedicated to Hurricane Katrina information. The service seeks to provide information concerning Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts to evacuees in shelters across the Gulf Coast, as well as to subscribers nationwide.
The channel allows viewers to send text messages to family and friends separated by the hurricane and its aftermath. Messages are scrolled across the bottom of the television screen on channel 100. To place messages, viewers can send e-mail messages to katrina@directv.com or text messages to 48433.
