N.Y. Puts Agent Renewals Online

NU Online News Service, Feb. 11, 9:44 a.m. EST?The New York State Insurance Department has announced that property-casualty agents can now renew their licenses over the Internet.

The program builds upon technology already in place for individual life, accident and health licensees that began last year, the department said.

Online renewals, the department said, will save time and money, improve customer service, and eliminate the number of incomplete applications submitted by verifying their completeness before submission.

The secure and encrypted process allows the agent to access the proper application, complete it, and pay by either check or credit card. Those who pay by credit card are issued their license within 48 hours.

Online processing, the department said, began in December with non-resident broker licenses through the National Insurance Producer Registry. The department said it is now working on original online licensing and expanding the non-resident licensing through NIPR.
