A Florida man was recently sentenced to three years probation after falsely claiming his broken-down dump truck was stolen.
According to an article that appeared in the Naples Daily News, Angel William Quintana worked in conjunction with another man named Orlando Blanco to put the scheme into action. Quintana allegedly agreed to pay Blanco $5,000 to "part out" the vehicle, which needed more than $9,000 in repair. Once the deal was agreed to and the vehicle disassembled at Blanco's chop shop, Quintana filed a false police report and made an insurance claim.
What the two didn't know, according to Daily News staff writer Aisling Swift, was that Blanco's home was under surveillance and parts matching Quintana's dump truck were seen being reattached to other vehicles. When confronted with the evidence, Quintana confessed to the crime.
