An earthquake and tsunami trigger nuclear and economic crisis in Japan. Tumult spreads like wildfire across the Middle East. Literal wildfires – and tornadoes, floods, drought, and other climactic crises – are daily headlines. Even piracy on the high seas threatens international transport. As for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill – it’s only been a year, but it seems long, long ago.

We’re becoming conditioned to commonplace catastrophe; we're learning to expect the unexpected. And thanks to the global economy, large-scale disruptions such as the Japanese crisis create global ripple effects that impact any business connected to a global supply chain. (These days, that means virtually any business, not just traditional manufacturers and retailers.) The questions then become: in the new, disruptive economy, how do we truly prepare for commonplace catastrophe in our globally interlinked businesses? How do you mitigate risk that can come from any quarter – of the globe? What if the damage to your supply chain or your enterprise is tangible, but not physical? Within the near-infinite universe of things that might go wrong, how do you prioritize and focus limited risk management resources and your investment in insurance coverage?

Fortunately, there's a strategic approach – “design for resiliency” – that takes into account these and other challenges of the disruptive economy. To discuss how you design your supply chain and insurance coverage for resiliency, National Underwriter and propertycasualty360.com will convene two premier experts – Gary Lynch, leader of global supply chain risk management at Marsh Risk Consulting, and Mike Kerner, CEO of the global corporate business line at Zurich North America. At this web seminar, our experts will walk attendees through a resilient design framework that:

  • Identifies single points of failure (SPOF), from source (e.g. the mine or growing field) to the end customer, that expose the supply chain to systemic risk
  • Encompasses, to the extent possible, all potential ripple effects of supply chain failure: from its impact on everything from labor to materials and other physical assets to customers to its implications on brand, reputation, and the investor marketplace
  • Focuses your organization’s investment in risk mitigation and insurance cover to increase resilience, avoid or mitigate the most critical potential risks, and maximize your limited resources.
