The Dallas-Forth Worth metropolitan area of northeast Texas was hit with a storm system that produced hail, high winds and tornadoes on Tuesday, April 3, damaging homes, knocking down power lines, tossing tractor trailers in the air and cancelling over 400 flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service indicate 18 possible tornadoes in the counties of Dallas, Ellis, Franklin, Hopkins, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Rockwall, Tarrant and Titus. The intensity of the tornadoes has not yet been confirmed.
The city of Dallas was not affected by tornado damage, though its suburbs—especially Lancaster—sustained significant damage. Officials say 300 homes were damaged and 150 properties were still without power.
No fatalities have been reported as of 10:00 EDT.
