Sterling & Sterling adds SVP: Sterling & Sterling hired Betsy Good as senior vice president, director of strategy. In this newly-created position, she must nurture carrier relationships, develop programs, and market existing programs. Prior, Good worked for 8 years at Victor O. Schinnerer as manager and director of new program development.
Crawford names SVP, COO: Crawford & Co. appointed Neil Allcroft to senior vice president global markets, effective April 10. Allcroft's primary focus will be on carrier relationships. Previously, Allcroft worked as a member of Zurich Global Corporate's UK Executive Board in London. Also Crawford's Canada branch promoted Pat Van Bakel to chief operating officer, after more than 20 years of service with the company. Van Bakel now oversees services supplied to the Canadian P&C market.
CRC appoints VP & senior P&C broker: The Houston office of CRC Insurance Services hired Virginia Gott as vice president and senior P&C broker. Gott holds 25 years industry experience. Prior, Gott worked as vice president for Colemont/AmWINS.
Rosenfeld Einstein hires senior account manager: The Southeastern brokerage and consulting firm, Rosenfeld Einstein, named Alice Stewart senior account manager for commercial lines. Before securing this position, Stewart worked for 20 years with Marsh and South Carolina Insurance Brokers.
AmWINS promotes Philly branch leader: AmWINS Brokerage of Pennsylvania appointed Matt Szkotak to the position of branch leader in Philadelphia. Previously, Szkotak worked as property manager of the Philadelphia office for 10 years. He now continues to perform his old duties, while also assuming branch leader responsibilities.
Dempsey Partners names Atlanta branch partner-in-charge: Forensic accounting firm, Dempsey Partners, appointed Alice Edwards to partner-in-charge of the company's Atlanta office. Edwards now has many duties: overseeing the Atlanta branch, managing the Eastern region's property damage claims practice, and developing client relationships in the Southeast.
OneBeacon appoints SVP: Minnesota-based OneBeacon Insurance Group named Maureen Phillips as senior vice president and general counsel. Phillips succeeds Brad Rich in this role, who will continue with the company through year end, at which time he will retire. Most recently, Phillips was chief legal officer at Allianz Life Insurance. She holds nearly 30 years in the legal profession, much of which were spent in insurance.

EPIC adds principal exec.: Retail P&C firm, EPIC (Edgewood Partners Insurance Center), hired Lou Razzano as principal and business development executive, based in San Ramon, Calif. He is now responsible for developing and growing a book of business. Formerly, Razzano was food industry executive.
Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers adds tech. director: The Washington-based Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers hired Christopher Gagnon as director of strategic technology. Now he is responsible for consulting Council member firms on strategic technology applications. Gagnon comes to the Council with more than 15 years experience developing and directing technology strategy for large insurance brokers.
NAIER elects new board officers: The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research named 11 new officers to the three following organizations:
- The Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) Board of Governors: W. Scott Naugle (chairman), Dino Gavanes (vice chairman), Lew Kachulis (member-at-large), Ted Ostrander, Jr. (member-at-large), and Brian Bays (immediate past-chairman)
- The Certified Insurance Service Representatives (CISR) Board of Governors: Deborah Bulik (chairman), Laura Barrett (vice chairman), Bridget Simpson (secretary), Christina Pedraza-Martinez (treasurer), and Jeanette Machisic (immediate past-chairman)
- The National Alliance Research Academy Board of Directors: Walter Gdowski (chairman)
Main Street America names 5 to 'Circle of Excellence': The Main Street America Group inducted 5 employees into its Circle of Excellence—the company's highest honor. Honorees are: Jen Day—operations supervisor, integrated customer solutions; Jim Kelley—product manager, commercial lines product; Kristen Lawrence—field technical trainer, organizational development and training; Connie Lopez—surety development executive, bonds; and Heidi Sporka—business analysis manager, information technology.
Mergers & Acquisitions
Marsh & McLennan acquires KSPH: Marsh & McLennan Agency (MMA), a subsidiary of the insurance broker Marsh, bought out KSPH—a Virginia employee benefits agency. KSPH will now operate within Rutherfoord, an MMA company. The acquisition is the third by Rutherfoord, which MMA acquired 2 years ago. All KSPH employees will continue to operate out of Glen Allen, Va.
HSB introduces Freestyle Advantage: The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co., a part of Munich Re, announced its new HSB Freestyle Advantage program. It bundles equipment breakdown coverage with optional data compromise and identity recovery coverage. Equipment breakdown insurance automatically includes coverage for mold and worldwide off-premises coverage. Policies will be available June 30.
