Florida Condo Association Calls for Insurance Legislation

The Community Advocacy Network www.canfl.com, which advocates for the interests of community association residents in Florida, wants to ensure that condominium owners are kept informed of certain insurance matters.
Among its 2011 legislative wish list released today is a requirement "that members in condominium associations with fewer than 50 units must be notified of a voluntary cancellation or non-renewal of the association's liability coverage." The organization says, "Condominium owners reasonably expect that their assessments will be applied towards insurance coverage on the building among other things. If the owners have notice that such coverage is at risk, they can take steps to correct the situation and protect their homes."
The Florida legislative session convenes March 8.
