Buildings that have earned the Energy Star typically use 35 percent less energy and emit 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than average buildings. Building types eligible to earn the Energy Star label include offices, bank branches, financial centers, retail stores, data centers, courthouses, hospitals, hotels, K-12 schools, medical offices, supermarkets, dormitories, houses of worship and warehouses.
