Sorensen Named IIS Chairman, Succeeds Duperrault

The International Insurance Society (IIS) has elected Norman R. Sorensen as its new chairman.

Mr. Sorensen, president, International Asset Management and Accumulation of The Principal Financial Group, succeeds Marsh & McLennan Companies USA President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Duperrault, who served as IIS chairman for three years.

IIS announced the election at its annual meeting in Madrid.

Mr. Sorensen joined The Principal in 1998 and was appointed to his current position in February 2010. He is responsible for managing The Principal's businesses outside the U.S. in the company's international asset management and accumulation segment.

Previously, he was a senior executive at American International Group (AIG).

In addition to serving as IIS chairman, Mr. Sorensen is also chairman of the Global & Trade Committee of the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR), D.C., and a member of Sara Lee Corp.'s board of directors.
