Recession Scares Workers Into Punctuality

The economic downturn has created an upturn in employee punctuality, according to a recent survey of more than 5,000 workers by CareerBuilder.

Sixteen percent of employees admit to showing up late for work at least once a week, down from 20 percent last year. And 8 percent of employees are late twice a week, compared with 12 percent a year ago.

Arriving on time is a big-time priority for many managers--one of three have fired an employee for being late to work, according to CareerBuilder.

One in three employees cite traffic for tardiness, while one in four blame a lack of sleep. Seven percent blame their children and the same percentage say the weather.
