Stars and Side Swipes: Celeb Crashes in 2009

Celebrities are accustomed earning accolades, often gracing the covers of magazines and various "best" lists. One need only look to the recent 82nd Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) ceremony, which took place on March 7, 2010, to witness the mutual ego-stroking, big wins, and even bigger fashion moments that will likely become water-cooler fodder for months to come. Yet, there is one list that prominent fixtures in Tinseltown may have shied away from, if given the choice.

Enter CARSTAR Collision Centers' inaugural CARSTAR'D Awards. The large chain of collision repair experts has decided to honor A-listers in a much different way, citing the notable dings, dents, and crashes in 2009.

Surprisingly absent from the 2009 list are Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lohan, who have earned spots on the CARSTAR'D All-Star list for past fender benders. There is no word on the claim costs associated with this year's crashes; however, this summary of incidents can at least serve as a cautionary tale to unrelenting paparazzi trailing stars.

Of course the top spot goes to Tiger Woods for the November 30th debacle during which he lost control of his SUV outside his Florida mansion. His wife used a golf club to smash out the back window, and Woods emerged with only minor cuts and bruises. Unfortunately it has not been as easy for him to extricate himself from the ongoing PR and professional nightmare.

Claiming the tenth spot on the list, Nicole Richie was involved in a crash when a paparazzo rear-ended her car. The Jackson family earned the ninth spot, as their brood made the list twice in 2009 -- first when Michael Jackson's kids were driving with their nanny on October 21st and a photographer rammed their security vehicle, and then with a hit-and-run incident with a photographer in London on October 23.

The rest of this year's "winners" can be found below in the chart titled "Talk of (Tinsel) Town." Although the 2010 nominees are still being shaped, Alec Baldwin's post-Oscar collision in West Hollywood could be a real contender.
