GEICO Opens New Facility in Virginia

GEICO officially has opened the doors to its $28 million data center expansion in Fredericksburg, Va. The nearly 17,000-square-foot facility now serves as the core of GEICO's voice and data operations, providing computer connections and services for GEICO's offices around the country.

"Because we do so much business over the Internet, we increased the capacity and reliability of our primary data center," says Steve Martz, GEICO assistant vice president of real estate and facilities management.

"We have been extremely pleased with the technology that is available for us to grow and improve our business," says Tony Nicely, president and CEO of GEICO. "This investment strengthens GEICO's long-term commitment to the region. It also enabled us to make improvements at our location, and it enhances the entire GEICO campus."

The expansion to the original data center, constructed in 1996, was completed in six months. GEICO's Fredericksburg office serves the mid-Atlantic region for auto policyholders and countrywide for homeowners customers. It employs more than 3,000 associates.
