Groups representing independent auto service technicians and automobile manufacturers have formed a coalition that supports existing voluntary efforts, rather than federal legislation, to provide access to technical repair data to both independent repair shops and all service providers. The Coalition for Automotive Repair and Fair Information Xchange (CARFIX) includes the Automotive Service Association, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers.
